“Changing the Culture 4 God” #Chh #Christianhiphop #tBK247

Nothing But Clay

22, also known as Shatina Davis was raised in Richmond, VA.  She is now a resident of Suffolk, VA with her loving husband and two amazing children. Her heart is to spread Gods message through rap to all the masses. 22 recently released her latest project, “Nothing But Clay“.  This interview is a chance to go behind the mic and get to know the artist. Hope you enjoy.

tBK – How did u get into Chh?

22 – Initially I did secular rap but after choosing to commit my life to Christ, I realized that I could use that same gift for his glory instead of mine.

tBK – How are you changing the culture for God?

22 – I’m not sure if I’m changing the culture or not. I’d like to believe that, to the best of my ability, I am reflecting God’s light. It’s no easy feat to be an ambassador for a worthy King in all of my unworthiness; nevertheless I am a willing vessel.

tBK – Who are u listening to that we should be listening too?

22 – Lately, I’ve been taking it back to that old school gospel that initially compelled me. Old school Kirk Franklin, old school Marvin Sapp, Greg O’quinn, Vickie Winans, etc. That’s that good music Grandma worshipped too.  At the time seemed boring and traditional, but yet it was always so powerful.

tBK – What do you hope people will get out of your music?

22 – I hope that people will get inspired and empowered by my music. My method is just to rap the Bible, not taking away from or adding anything to it. I would hope that they would grasp a better understanding of what God’s word is saying to us all.

tBK – Who influenced you the most in music and in life?

22 – Initially my greatest musical influence came from down south hip-hop artists, I could name a bunch, and I just love hip-hop. The person who influenced me the most in life was my Mom, she raised me with a lot of hugs and kisses.

tBK – Who would you like to work with in the future?

22 – I’d like to work with Bizzle, Canon, and Da Truth.

tBK – How hard is it to separate business and your ministry?

22 – It’s not as difficult for me as it is for others. For some reason, the business aspect of ministry is not taken as serious by some if they’ve never really heard of you, or if you’re not a preacher.

tBK – On your longest day and hardest battle what scripture do you find strength in?

22 – As cliché as it may sound its actually the 23rd Psalm.  It’s a short scripture that covers all of the bases.

We will definitely be keeping our eyes on 22 and more than that we will keep praying for her as she Changes the Culture 4 God! Check 22 out and please support her.
