Having a chance to listen to Braek Haven’s album, “Autumn Reign” it was an outstanding album to hear.
Sometimes in Christian hip-hop, people can try and imitate what’s hot and lose their originality in trying to fit in. I can honestly say after hearing the album a few times it does not lack originality, good productions, and the topics are must-hears throughout the whole album.
It was a pleasure to do this interview with Braek Haven and we pray he continues to “Break Every Chain” while changing the culture 4 God.
How did u get into Chh?
Christian hip-hop is something that got into me. It’s only right to make music to reflect the life you live.
How are you changing the culture for God?
With my relatable sound and overall delivery, I want to show the younger crowd(as well as the older crowd) that music can be catchy and relatable without having to be vulgar or obscene. From my experiences, I’ve learned that people put a negative connotation with Christian rap. Lots of people say that it can be corny and that most Christian artists are doing it because deep down they really want to be secular. I am changing the culture because I believe that I “Braek” all of those stereotypes.
Who are u listening to that we should be listening too?
My favorite Artist is Bizzle. His music is raw and not diluted. He says what needs to be said and how it needs to be said.
What do you hope people will get out of your music and your new album?
I hope that people can relate to my message and get closer to God. I want them to know that anything that they are going through I can empathize with and address in song. Through this, they will also get to know me better.
Who influenced you the most in music and in life?
As far as music goes, I didn’t come from a music background like most. Hearing music growing up, I always felt the need to put my ad-libs on it. In school, we use to rap at lunch and people thought I was good. From there I started to think that maybe I am as good as they think I am. As far as my life influences go, I would have to say, God.
Who would you like to work in the future?
In the future, I would like to work with any talented individual who puts God first and understands the Business as well.
How much have you grown on this project, talent wise and Spiritual?
I have grown a lot. I really pushed myself to the limit with this project. I’ve learned how to better discipline myself as well. Growing spiritually goes hand in hand with the evolution of this project. Spiritually I am growing each and every day and since this project has been released I will continue to grow because there is so much work to be done even after the release and it will take patience and even more discipline to spread this message.
How hard is it to separate business and your ministry?
It is not hard to separate the two.
How hard is it being young and saved?
I don’t think to be young and saved is any more or less difficult than being older and saved. The devil will come with the same tricks regardless. What’s young or old is also subjective as well. Someone could be 40 years old and be young in Christ and someone could be 20 and be mature in Christ. There are levels for sure.
On your longest day and hardest battle, what scripture do you find strength in?
‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength. ‘ Philippians 4:13
