Part 1: Worship Christ Is Better!
Scripture Readings: Hebrews 1:1-9
1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
The Summary: Worship Jesus Christ for He is worthy of our praise!
The theme word of the Bible lesson is “BETTER.”
Nobody knows who wrote the book of Hebrews. Some people and most of the theologians in the 21st century believe Paul wrote it. It could have been Apollos, Barnabas, Silas, or some unknown writer or maybe even Pricilla.
It was probably written before the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., since it refers to the Mosaic sacrificial system as if it were still in practice. (The Covenant Laws and Burnt Sacrifices & ETC.)
For me it doesn’t matter who wrote the book of Hebrews in reference of WHO it is about!
It defines the importance of worship to the 2nd part of the Trinity; Jesus Christ. The Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior.
Hebrews sets Jesus in His place and puts an emphasis on the importance of His name and His birth rights!
It shows that angels, and prophets like Jeremiah, Ezekiel, David, and even a man as great as Moses are all good, but Jesus Christ is better!
ex.) We know that Kobe and LeBron are good, but I’d rather have Jordan with me in any game six or game 7 when the game was on the line. Strictly My opinion! 😆
ex.) When you go buy a car you can get the regular package which is not all that bad. It’s a new car but you might have to roll your window down or maybe the motor is not as fast. But when you get the luxury edition you probably will have heated seats and the whole nine.
One is good, but the other one is better.
The content of the book of Hebrews is that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is superior to everyone and everything. Because of that truth all men should worship God’s Son!
Hebrews was written to Jewish believers, Christians who were also Jewish people, and they were concerned about a lot of things. This was a time of great discussion about who Jesus was. They knew all about the Old Testament Law; they knew about their practices in the Old Testament; they knew about angels, but they didn’t quite know where Jesus fit into all of this. So the writer of Hebrews writes directly to Jewish Christians to say this is where Jesus Christ is. He is superior to all those things.
The early church was attacked by many sides and faced many different problems. So some say that this chapter was written because Jesus Christ offered salvation by His sacrifice and the people wasn’t sure if they should follow Jesus Christ because this was a new way of living and not Judaism.
1. a religion developed among the ancient Hebrews and characterized by belief in one transcendent God who has revealed himself to Abraham, Moses, and the Hebrew prophets and by a religious life in accordance with Scriptures and rabbinic traditions
2. conformity to Jewish rites, ceremonies, and practices
3. the cultural, social, and religious beliefs and practices of the Jews
Conclusion for part 1 is the prophets and angels are good, but Jesus Christ is BETTER!
