Christ Is Better than Burnt Offerings – part. 4

Christ Is Better than Burnt Offerings!

Bible Verse:

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

Main Points:

A. In the first part of verse 3 (Who being the brightness of his glory) the author sets apart Jesus from anybody, as far as prophets or anyone in the bible. Being the BRIGHTNESS of God’s glory sends a magnifying statement to anyone! This is saying that Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God! SINCE WE CAN’T SEE GOD; WE CAN SEE GOD IN JESUS CHRIST! WE CAN KNOW GOD BY KNOWING JESUS CHRIST!

B. “PURGED OUR SINS” “When he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS AND HOW POWERFUL IT IS?

His glory, His person, His power, and “OUR SINS?” It was “our sins” that required His redemption. Christ “purged our sins.” The word “purged” means “purified or cleansed us from sin.”

C. Conclusion: The author wanted his readers to know that Christ alone can purify sins, something that all the Old Testament sacrifices combined could never accomplish (Hebrews 10:4). And Christ accomplished this “by himself.” “By himself” means “alone.” Since Jesus was the only sacrifice that God would accept, He offered Himself. Worship God‟s Son for His purifying power!

Burnt Offerings were good, but Jesus was BETTER!
