Disobedience to Direct Orders

““You and Aaron must take the staff and assemble the entire community. As the people watch, speak to the rock over there, and it will pour out its water. You will provide enough water from the rock to satisfy the whole community and their livestock.”” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭20:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God gave Aaron and Moses a direct order in how to get water from the rock. God said, “speak to the rock “, and they struck the rock instead.

Even in the disobedience of Moses, Aaron and the Israelites God still gave them water. Just like in our disobedience God still gives us what we need. What an awesome, amazing God we serve!

But just because God shows grace and mercy to us as He did with the Israelites does not mean we escape punishment for our sins. God still punished Moses and Aaron’s disobedience by not allowing them to go into the promise land. Does this mean that God loved them any less? Does this mean God loves us any less when we disobey His direct orders? No, but just like we punish our children for their disobedience God may punish us for ours.

“So Moses did as he was told. He took the staff from the place where it was kept before the LORD.” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭20:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?” Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill.” Numbers‬ ‭20:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭20:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

May The Lord add a blessing to readers of this devotional.
