I was watching the news some time ago and it hit me like a ton of bricks on how ungrateful I can be at times. How unappreciative I can be for the things that God has given to me. How sometimes I get caught up in everyday life and don’t acknowledge how gracious God really is in my life.
The news was about the homeless people that had nowhere to stay. They were going to open up the Birmingham Civic Center overnight so the homeless people would have somewhere to stay because the temperature was going to be in the high twenties. To cold for anyone person to be outside.
They asked one lady what would you have done if the Civic Center wasn’t opening? She said, “I would be sleeping under the highway with 50 blankets on.”
What really made me just feel ungrateful was when the next person they interviewed spoke. He said he and his wife had a house, but they couldn’t pay the light bill. I was like wow!
Normally when you see someone homeless you think about what they did to become homeless. Was it drugs, alcohol, or just how the tables was turn for that person? Now to see someone that had a house, but wasn’t finically able to pay their bills was a real hit home for me. I looked at my wife and son and said. “Do you see how good God is to us?”
I’m going to leave this devotion with some inspiring words from my friend Eric. “When the heat comes on you know it’s cold outside and I thank God for cutting on my heater. I thank God for when I hit the light switch and the lights come on also. Sometimes we get so caught up on the big stuff that God does for us. That we forget about the small stuff. Like food, and a roof over our heads with working lights, running water, and gas.”
Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT)
Please pray with us:
I just want to take this opportunity to say Thank You. Thank You, my Heavenly Father. Thank You my most Merciful God for all that You have provided for me! Thank You for all the circumstances that You see me through and thank You for blessing me regardless of me not thanking You all the time. In Jesus name, AMEN!
