Bangers: Forward, Pray, Never Let Me Down
Still fighting everyday to be who I’m called to be instead of being so bitter/
I done came a long way from me breaking down swishers to breaking down scripture/ One Way
This “One Way” EP by Nerva comes at a time in my life where it was much needed. “One Way” was a blessing to hear and not only for me personally because of the trial I’m in now. But in a genre where there is a lot of self-glorifying, glamorizing materialism and this year even social media beef, dis songs in #Chh it’s awesome to hear scripture after scripture and music that has the love of God in it.
What I really heard on Nerva’s EP, “One Way” is he is really letting Jesus save on it and that’s very refreshing! When you listen you can honestly hear how Nerva took himself out of it and exhorts the Lord. Yes, he has some testimony in his lyrics. But it has just enough testimony from him but not in a way that looks like he’s exploiting God’s grace. By doing this Nerva allows the Word of God to save the sinner. Paul plants, Apollos waters but God gives the increase!
‘I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. ‘ 1 Corinthians 3:6-7
Nerva should be on the radar of everybody in the #Chh community! With his gift the Lord gave him to rap and his heart for God, I see big things to come from this young man in the near future.
Track 1 – Early in the Morning:
I rather speak the truth even if I’m persecuted/ I don’t need the world approval so they cannot keep me quiet
The only list I pray I’m in is in the book of life/ If following the Lord is wrong I rather not be right
What a way to start off the EP. This is what every Christian should do before we do anything else. When our feet hit the floor in the morning our knees should hit the floor next.
In “Early in the Morning” one of the things Nerva touches on are superficial things. What are you holding onto in this world? Faith or materialistic things?
Well, at the end of the day, as Nerva profoundly states is whoever your following or whatever you are chasing in this world if it’s not salvation you will not end up in the book of life.
‘Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.’ Revelation 21:27
Track 2 – Forward:
Living right ain’t easy but the growth is in the climb/ The fight tough but the real battle in the mind
This is my favorite track on the EP! It’s an anthem for all Christians as well as all people. Nerva says “my God, He never fails!” Now that’s a testimony to all.
Having the privilege to know Nerva on a personal level and to be able to call him a friend, I feel like on this track he speaks in several areas of his life.
“I’m just trying to be a better man for my kids and my wife.” Nerva
Nerva mentions how his dad wasn’t present in his childhood and when he finally made it out from stealing so he could eat and graduated to having enough money to buy fine clothes, he was still empty on the inside without God. How many of us have been there?
“I see you investing the best of you into bad habits seeking validation from people who may not even love you back,/ (They may not even love you back) /Nothing in this world lasts/ But I guarantee with God you will never ever lack” – Nerva
Wow, this world, as well as people, will eat you up and spit you out and we all know this. What’s a trip is when that happens people still try to chase the validations of others and may never get out of that rut until they decide to seek fulfillment in the Lord.
“Some people live their whole life living in regret / Making bad choices and always upset/ Wanting God’s best but you following the flesh” – Nerva
Whoa! Enough said!
You can hear in the bars that Nerva has been hurt, you can hear Nerva has failed God, but through it all, you can hear that Nerva has truly repented and loves the Lord and through his God-given talent; he wants to use it to save souls for God.
Since it was an EP, I didn’t want to do a review of every song because I wanted the listener to find their favorite song, so no spoilers here; but know this Ep, “One Way” by Nerva is truly Bookkeeper approved!
