Brooklyn Rapper Serious Voice drops another one! The song, dubbed RAP QUEEN, is the title track of her award-winning documentary RAP QUEEN: THE SERIOUS VOICE STORY and second installment to her Shofar 1.5 album.
Based heavily on 1 Peter 2:9, Rap Queen diverts from the usual boom bap sound that Serious Voice is accustomed to and showcases a crisp trap beat produced by Jeejuh. Serious Voice focuses on the objectification of women in music videos, television, billboards, and so many other mediums.
In the pre-chorus of the song she emphatically cries: “I’m so tired of ’em calling us Bs, so tired of gyrating screens, so sick and tired, just call me KAP (Colin Kaepernick) that’s why I and Pr3pe we protesting want it all back.”
Serious Voice has seen much success lately with her Shofar album as her only worship track, WOAH, was selected by Spike Lee for She’s Gotta Have It Season 1, Episode 9 and has performed live on Sway In The Morning during SXSW.
The two-time Kingdom Choice Award nominee has been uber busy screening her ‘Rap Queen: The Serious Voice Story’ documentary and doing mini-tours in the US and Canada. She has said on several occasions that females are not often recognized for their artistry but lauded for good looks and charisma. SHOFAR 1.5: THE BAR EXAM promises to address that and other issues.
