How do trials lead to perfection?
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:2-5 NIV)
As I write this I’m going through a trial. My first reaction was God why? God quickly showed me an area in my life that needs attention. He wants me completely dependent on Him, not my husband, my mom, my dad, my brother or my sister, just Him. When I began to take my eyes off of my current circumstances, believe and trust God and His Word, my demeanor changed from being helplessly defeated to being more than a conquer in Christ Jesus. Once my outlook changed, I began to overcome my trials. By faith God is perfecting me. How can we as Christians say that we have a relationship with God if we don’t fully trust Him with everything; our life, our children, our money? He wants it all. Come what may, through all situations, problems, circumstances, we must count it all joy and continue to serve God. Trials test your faith and Un-tested faith can not be trusted.
“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (1 Peter 1:6, 7 NIV).
At times we have this mind-set that if you are a Christian then you shouldn’t have problems. No-one wants to suffer or go through trials, but testing builds our character. God shapes us and molds us through trials and testing. For example, would we send troops into war without the proper training? God is putting us through training for battling spiritual warfare. The next time you find yourself in an unbearable situation, take a deep breath and remember you are in training, God is creating his masterpiece in you.
