Even though Tarzan was taken out of the wilderness and the people who found him put him in new clothes and lavish suits, he still went back to the jungle in the movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, lord of the Apes.
Was it because that was all he knew? Or could it have been because they pushed him to be who they wanted him to be and didn’t show him concern for what his needs or likes were?
Sometimes as Christians, when we see someone who has been in the wilderness for along time or fresh out of their situation, we run them off because they don’t conform at the speed that we think they should and we make them uncomfortable.
I realized that this happens when we thank God for his patience, grace and comfort that He shows us but we don’t give that same grace, patience and comfort back to His children and they become uncomfortable around us.
You can take a person out of the the environment they’re in but you can’t take the environment out of that person. This is a true statement, but as a follower of Christ, you can lead them to the Person who can, our Abba father. By showing grace, patience and comfort to others you demonstrate this concept!
So before you get frustrated, and maybe before you in-deliberately run the next new member off from the body of Christ, do one thing first; Remember who you were when you were in the wilderness asking for God to comfort you.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT)
